How to Make Sheppard's Pie (Vegetarian)

Shepperd's Pie is an old Irish dish that was considered a "Poor Man's dish" When things where scarce the Irsh would throw left overs in a pot and now we have this dish! 

Why is it called Sheppards Pie? Originally, a pie made with any kind of meat and mashed potato was called a "cottage pie". In modern British English, the dish is usually called "cottage pie" if it is made with beef. If it is made with lamb it is usually called "shepherd's pie" (because a shepherd looks after sheep).

This is a great dish to mix and match your veggies to see what you end up with.

How to make Sheppard's Pie

You will need:


  • 2 bags of "Morning Star Crumbles" (Or Mushrooms)
  • 1 whole Onions (cut a diced)
  • 1 full bag of Idaho Potatoes.
  • Spaghetti Sauce (Marinara)
  • 2 Bags of Cheddar Cheese (Daiya Cheese for Vegans)
  • 2 Bags of Mixed Cheeses
  • 2 Bags of Peas and Carrots
  • 1 Aluminum Lasagna Pans


Start by finding your biggest pot. Fill the pot up with water half way. Season the
water with salt and pepper. Rinse off all your potatoes before adding them one by
one. Use 3/4 of the bag. Pour enough water where all the potatoes are covered.
After your potatoes are completely tender follow the "Homemade Garlic Mash

Next in a medium fry pan add your butter and then add your onions. When your
onions become transparent add your crumbles. One bag at a time and cook until
they are brown and turn off the heat when finished.

In a Medium size pot have your spaghetti sauce heating on low temperature.
In a large pot have your peas and carrots half way filled with water on medium
heat. Also add oil spread with the peas and carrots.
After your peas and carrots become tender drain them and squeeze an amount of
Honey on the peas and carrots.
Now it is time to complete your 2 layers
Preheat Oven to 350.
First add your mash potatoes to the bottom of your aluminum pan. Spread the
mash potatoes out evenly. Then add a layer of cheese. Next add your meat or
crumbles. Add a generous layer of both cheeses. Add your peas and carrots, then
add your spaghetti sauce. Finally add another layer of both cheeses. REPEAT 1-2
times. Top with a layer Potatoes with Shredded cheese on top. Turn over down to
325. Let it bake for about 25 mins.
